The government released its planned roadmap out of lockdown today. What has changed for employers? The honest answer is - not much!
Employees are still required to work from home where possible. Where home working isn't possible, employees continue to be told that they can travel to work provided their workplace is open (avoiding public transport as much as they can).
The anticipated announcement on the future of the Job Retention Scheme is more likely to herald change for employers, as the Chancellor is expected to set out how he plans to curtail furlough pay as the lockdown lifts. The furlough scheme is currently only in place until the end of June, so it's a case of watch this space (particularly for employers contemplating redundancies once the scheme is over) to see whether it will be extended or curtailed.
The strategy sets out a cautious roadmap to easing existing measures in a safe and measured way, subject to successfully controlling the virus and being able to monitor and react to its spread.
