I participated in an online forum discussion entitled "Blockchain: A Brave New World of Consumerism" (watch the recording here) on 20 November, organised by Art Unchained, the brainchild of Joanne Ooi, Lisa Botos and Jean-Luc Gustave. The Art Unchained project featured a media art installation (right next to Baker McKenzie's Hong Kong office) and two online forums exploring the effect of technology on the art industry and, more generally, the commercialization of creativity.  Jean-Luc Gustave, head of Asia at GDA Capital, Ashok Venkateswaran, Vice President and AsiaPac Blockchain Lead, Mastercard, and Jim Duffy, CEO at Tracr were also on the panel, which was moderated by Angie Lau,  a blockchain expert and founder of Forkast.News. I talked about how blockchain and smart contracts can help with the authentication of art and unique creations, the tokenisation of art pieces and creative projects, the democratisation and decentralisation of content and royalties in the music industry and in particular the way that digital creative content is paid for, licensed, interpolated and published.

Meanwhile, the art installation "Human Study #1, 5RNP", by Patrick Alain Tresset, was on display at Artistree, Swire Properties' art and culture space in Taikoo Place. The performative artwork featured 5 robots sketching human sitters in 20-minute life drawing sessions.
