As part the European strategy for data, the Commission is considering the creation of a European Health Data Space,  a platform-based common data space 'for the prevention, detection and cure of diseases, as well as for evidence-based decisions in order to enhance effectiveness, accessibility and sustainability of the healthcare systems'.

While the EDPB supports this initiative acknowledging that this is a strategic goal within the wider European strategy for data, it raises some data protection concerns that need to be considered before making any decisions. The initiative is yet to be discussed and debated thoroughly, but this first step means the journey towards a common European health data space has started.
