Helpful summary from the UKIPO of the impact of Brexit on the main IP rights in the UK. This includes the most recent change - a requirement for a UK address for service for new applications or proceedings relating to UK patents, trade marks and design rights after 1 January 2021 (mirroring the approach of the EU in not accepting UK addresses for service for EU rights following the end of the transition period). It doesn’t cover plant variety rights (known in the UK as Plant Breeders’ Right) - for more on that click here for our InsightPlus article.
The transition period ends on 31 December 2020. On 1 January 2021 there will be changes to UK intellectual property law to ensure the smooth departure from EU IP systems.
