So glad to be quoted in David Uberti's WSJ Cybersecurity Pro article today entitled "Biden Faces Early Test on Digital Trade With EU Privacy Talks." I would expect the negotiation of Privacy Shield 2.0 with the European Commission might not be the very top priority as the new Administration comes in, but it will be viewed as a critical piece of global digital strategy, and therefore should be taken up within the first year. In the meantime, the key is going to be whether the EU data protection authorities and others are strict, and in my view unfair, in the enforcement of Schrems II against companies, particularly many sectors that do not deal in practice with national security surveillance demands. 2021 will be a busy year!
