Recently the Thai government issued a regulation prohibiting the dissemination of information that may incite fear among the public and cause misunderstanding in emergency situations. However, the proposed regulation was considered to be contrary to the Constitution as the regulation covered both factual as well as false statements (i.e. fake news), which could negatively impact genuine communication in times of need. The government have since been forced to make a U-turn by the Civil Court until further changes to the regulation can be made.
